Betrothed

And...it begins.

B has always charmed the ladies, and been charmed by them as well (especially if they are brunettes and either of african american & white heritage, or are latina...and older...). But, it was just cute stuff. Oh, how he still pines for 17 year old Calen.

Then, he started elementary school.

Last year, many girls flocked to him. They were all his "best friends" Coco, Olivia, Sasha, Heather, and some other girl I can't remember. But, they were just his friends....

Then, first grade happened.

Neither Coco or Olivia are in B's class this year. In fact, his luck of the draw left him in a class without any of his very best friends. Fortunately, he can still see many of them at lunch/recess and in childcare. Coco and Olivia are in childcare....Coco's interests seemed to have moved on from B for now...but Olivia...

Ohhhhhh, Olivia....

Olivia likes him so much that her mother has apologized for her behavior. She will not allow B to leave for the day without giving him a hug. She has come up to both my husband and I on numerous occasions and told us she was going to marry Brendan.

She asks him to marry her....every day.

"What do you say to her when she asks?"

"I say yes, because I like her too."

Ohhhhhh, Olivia. My future daughter-in-law. You better treat him well. And you better stay as sweet as you are now or we will have issues.

Superhero!

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. I am really not supposed to tell anyone, so this is just between you and I...ok?

Pinky swear?

OK, so, my son is a superhero. He told me so this morning. It's a big secret, but he thought it might be ok for me to know.

His superhero name is apparently Snow. He's kinda like Mr. Freeze you see, but instead of needing machines and stuff to freeze people, Snow just shoots lines out of his fingers, like spiderman, but different. They are invisible lines, so only he can see them, because he can see invisible things. One kind of line is an electric shocker line. Another kind of line is a sleeper line that puts his enemies to sleep for "hundreds of hundreds" of years. The last kind of line shoots ice out and freezes the bad guys in their place. He can also throw super awesome snow balls that explode into ice that freezes them too.

He's going to make his own superhero uniform. It has to be all white of course, cuz his name is Snow. He's going to draw it on paper, but he will use invisible ink so other people can't see it. But he can, remember, cuz he can see invisible things.

He thinks I might be a superhero too. Cuz a lot of times, a superhero has a superhero parent. He's going to draw his uniform in invisible ink and see if I can see it. If I can, I will be a superhero too and we can fight the bad guys together. I will be Snow Woman, because he is Snow.

I asked if he thought his Daddy might be a superhero too. He didn't seem so sure about that possibility. I said "ooh! if he is, he can be Snow Man and we can make a snowman uniform for him!" That brought forth a barrage of giggles.

So, after I take the invisible ink seeing test, I'll let you know if I am a superhero or not. Cross your fingers!

oh, and don't forget, this is Top Secret Information!

~~Snow Woman (or should I convince him it should be Snow Mom?)

Watch out Jackie Chan!

Karate takes up half my non-working hours these days..or nearly so it seems.

Good thing I find it so entertaining to watch the miniature ninjas.

Last night was a Karate night. We signed B up for karate for many reasons, good exercise, good discipline...and we are hoping it will give him a little more self pride and confidence. B is such a caring loving B, which is awesome, but it makes him a little meek in nature.

For example, the kids were asked to partner up with someone. B was too timid to approach anyone and was without a partner, until one of the teachers noticed he and a girl were both without a partner. The girl is a purple belt. B is a white belt. The girl is like..8? 9? B... 4 1/2. Quite the difference, eh?

Yesterday, they were practicing hold breaks, and blocks mostly. For this section, they were working on blocking punches while retreating (and throwing punches while advancing, obviously). This is a new concept to B for the most part. I was worried the purple belt would get annoyed with B being so far behind them...but she did a wonderful job with him.

I was pleased as punch to see him doing so well :)

Then, they all gathered to talk about the exercise. Master asked the other teachers if they saw anyone who exhibited the technique exceptionally well that could demonstrate to the class. The teaher who was nearest to B and A when they were working at it spoke up, "I think B and A did a very good job, especially given the difference in their levels. A, as a purple belt exhibited great leadership when helping B, and B did an excellent job at the technique. I was amazed to see a white belt do so well."

*gets teary eyed with pride just remembering*

None of the other teachers had anyone to offer, so Master invited A and B up to demonstrate to the class. This was B's first time to do this. B and A squared off towards each other, with B's back towards me. Before they started, he turned, and smiled...it was the most gorgeous smile, full of pride in himself. It is a moment I will always remember.

*sniffles*

Yes, this karate thing is working out to be a good investment, even if I have to scrimp and save to make them happen. WELL worth it. Just for that moment....

And he's just a white belt! Imagine what my little dude will be like if he makes it to Black Belt!

Cute Stuff

Just a couple of cute things that I don't want to forget...

It is very windy today. On the way to daycare, B told hubby hubby that Papa makes the wind. See, Papa is in heaven, which is in the sky. Wind comes from the sky, so, B believes Papa makes the wind.

To go along with the sky theme...

The sun seems to use the sky as it's bed. It was very cloudy this morning, so B didn't think the could would get out from under his cloud blankets and go to work today. I would have liked to stay under my blankets and not go to work today too...lucky sun.

Many kids will say that when it thunders that it is angels bowling...not my son...my son believes that thunder happens when the Giants (who live on clouds) are drumming.

I'll add some more cute stuff as I think of it.

Keep dreaming,
D

A recent weekend

I went out to my Mother’s house a couple saturdays ago. Our Disney trip (for August) is now all booked! YAY!!! I am so excited. Brendan was very patient in the travel agency, playing with Daddy. Thankfully it was absolutely beautiful outside, so when he started getting very antsy they went for a walk.

After the agency, we went back to Mom’s and Brendan and Dave and I spent most of the time outdoors. Ahhhh....fresh air! I could hear the frogs in the pond, but for the life of me could NOT find a single one to show B. We played soccer, ran around with the dog, ran around on our own...it was lovely, and reminded me of my own childhood and how I ran around the same land exploring the things that spring was bringing.

Sunday morning was my turn to sleep in. I woke up lazily and was half way through breakfast when I realized...OMG! the Pow Wow is today! I had almost forgotten. I have gone to the Pow Wow every year for the last 8 years, and volunteered at many of them. It is a HUGE event here. B has come with me every year since, well...since he was in my tummy! So, we got ready and off we went.

B brought some money with him in his wallet. He loves his wallet. I told him we would find something he could buy. Little did I know the kid would spend all of my money too! *laughs* It seems we have reached that age. I don’t mind though, it was fun. He asked what some things were, and I told him. He liked what the dreamcatcher was for, so he wanted one of those. The first one he picked out (a blue and white seed beaded one..completely beaded and made to look like a turtle) was 60 bucks. No hunny....not until you have a job. The kind man pointed out that he also had $15 ones. B happily picked one of those out. He also walked away from the Pow Wow with a rock painted with an owl, a wooden snake and a book. He stood mesmerized for a time by the Native American Flute player. It was so cute. I reminded him he had a flute like that at home. While I can’t justify spending 60 bucks on a dreamcatcher, I tend to not skimp on his musical instruments and bought him a Native American flute in Sedona for like 80.

Anyway...We also sat and enjoyed the dance competitions. My favorites have always been Men’s Fancy Dance and Grass Dance. B seemed to like the Women’s Fancy Shawl. I have a video where B is bopping along to the drum beat. I promise to post it as soon as I manage to get it uploaded. We also enjoyed a pretzel together. However, there was SO MUCH salt on it that B gagged on his first bite. YUCK! SO, we scraped off all the salt and then enjoyed it :) Unfortunately, we had to leave before the adult dance competitions. B was getting awfully tired. Some days he can skip a nap...other days he desperately needs one. This was a day he needed one. He slept for almost 3 hours!

So, the work week begins. It has been a blur. Busy busy busy all day, and busy at night. B and I have been playing soccer almost every day after work. Our forecast for the week has said rain every day. However, it only rained overnight once. We lucked out. B is quite the good soccerball kicker! I might have to look into getting him involved in soccer soon. Maybe over the fall and winter we can do indoor soccer. This has also helped me get out in the fresh air. I can feel my winter doldrums fall from me with each ray of sunshine that caresses my body!

Oh! And I had to go to jury duty! First time ever. Sat there for a few hours and then they dismissed us. We were not needed. Yay! SO, I went shopping instead *grins*. I ALMOST bought B a bike that I saw at Target. Only 40 bucks! But, I thought that something like that should be discussed with Hubby first. We looked it up online, and it got good ratings, wasn’t a character one that he would tire of by next year, so we decided to get it. BUT, then my MIL asked us if she could buy a bike for him. We showed her the one we picked out. She decided instead to get him the one at a local cycle shop that costs a hundred bucks more! Crazy. But, I can’t tell her no! At least from the cycle shop we know it is a good one.

We picked up the bike last weekend. He is getting very good at riding it! Dave fixed up our bikes so we can go out as a family. I may need new tires for mine, but I won't really know until we go out.

I'll add pics of the bike as soon as I upload them :)

Greetings

Hello! Most of you live far away from me and the wonderfulness that is my family. I usually blog on MySpace, but when I found out Liz blogged here, I thought I might add a blog here strictly about The Constants so that you might all be able to stay updated. I have to figure this site out, but I hope to figure out how to post pictures and video. Then, maybe the distance won't seem so unbearable.

Love to All!
D
